Singing by the Stairs

Remember our bench seat? It used to sit beside the stairwell. That is, until Sparkle and Blue came along.

They were the much anticipated, saved-up-for pets by Paris, our oldest daughter.
She bought the birds, and we bought the birdcage.

Because I found one in a distressed gray finish.

I thought beside the stairs would be the perfect spot for it. For them.

As did Blackberry, one of our four cats. The table lends itself to a superb spying spot.
They are used to each other by now though and co-exist peaceably,

by the stairs.

  7. Such a gorgeous post! Sparkle and Blue are adorable (as is Blackberry). We've always had Budgie's ~ they make wonderful pets...and there is nothing nicer than hearing their sweet singing all day long. I thought our budgie Jax had a nice cage with all the bells & whistles until I saw Sparkle & Blue's! Stunning ♥

  15. That is a beautiful cage, beautiful birds and a beautiful Paris and not in that order. I love cats but have allergic grandkids. I do have a shedding dog. Your house looks so clean, white and beautiful. How do you handle the hair of 4 cats? Linda

  16. So beautiful!!! The birdcage, the birdies, and your daughter! Like others, I'd really love to know where you purchased the birdcage. My two lovebirds (Mack & Mabel) have a delux aviary but I'd love to have a beautiful birdcage like yours to change out in the living room! Thanks for posting! Alexa

  18. What sweet pets for a lil girl, named Paris, to have. Of course I love the blue one. And your birdhouse is amazing. Are they easy to keep or are they messy?

I am new to your blog and find it so so beautiful. It is exactly the style I love. And you homeschool all those beautiful children. I homeschooled mine for 15 yrs. I recently did a post about wood flooring and used your floors as an example with your blog name and link to you...but I realize I really should have asked first. Please forgive me for not asking first. I can remove it if you would like. I'm sorry for being irresponsible with kind manners. Sincerely, Fairmaiden of Sea Cottage

  20. Hi Rie,

The birdcage is really lovely. Lucky birds. Had to have a good laugh with the cat lying next to the cage on the table. So funny! Have a great weekend.

  21. I absolutely adore your birdcage... well your whole house for that matter...I ran across your blog a few days ago and I just love your decorating style. I'm not sure I can pick one thing that is my favorite... I love, love, love your kitchen island.. and your sink. I wish I could find one of those! Love the little dogs holding your cookbooks.. already scoured the internet for those, with no such luck. Totally love your pillow case covers on the bar stools.. and because of you I'm watching a red wing crock on ebay! You've definitely given me lots of inspiration. I look forward to your postings to what's next. Thank you! :)

  24. I had two parakeets just like that when I was a little girl -- their names were Sky and Sunshine. Their house was not nearly as stylish!

  25. Some time has passed, but I just saw your blog post about the birds and cage. If that's a decorative painted bird cage, it's likely made overseas somewhere and may have toxic paint on it. Birds are notorious chewers, so you should check this to be sure your birds aren't harmed.
