Bathing Bohemian Style

bathroom5

I really do like color.

bathroom6

In small doses.

bathroom7

And the bathroom is the perfect spot for it.

bathroom1

A couple of years ago I found this bohemian style skirt at Macy’s in the girl’s section.

skirt

I snatched it up, knowing it was not destined to live its life hung from my little girl’s hips.

bathroom2

No, it needed to be hung somewhere in my house to liven things up a bit.

bathroom14

I think it adds an element of surprise, wouldn’t you say?

bathroom3

The legs of this sink were old bed posts we found at the local junk shop.  Flipped upside down, they make quirky legs for the antique marble sink we got off craigslist.

bathroom10

The top came with the ugliest shiny brass legs with chicken feet.

bathroom4

The mirror was just a frame from an antique store.  We had a mirror cut for it.  My handy husband made an inset cabinet behind it.  The frame came in black, which I almost kept as is, but ended up painting it my signature color.  (if you haven’t guessed, that would be white)

bathroom5

The sweet enameled container on the wall came from TJ Maxx.  I use it to store paper towels for drying.

bathroom12

The vintage looking wall hook is from Pottery Barn.  I purchased it using a gift card I won from Houzz’s interview with Miss Mustard Seed (aka Marian).  So now you know I always think of my bloggy friends every time I enter the restroom.

bathroom13

But maybe that’s not the most flattering thought.  Moving along…

bathroom9

On the other wall, we have a three tier basket from Pier-1 for storage.  And another Pottery Barn purchase is sitting beside it.  It’s advertised as a hurricane lamp, but it’s more useful as a waste can.  We have fancy plans for the top.  Stay tuned!

Thanks for visiting our little pocket of color!

  1. Hey, Rie!

I am celebrating a little more color than that at my blog, but I LOVE your bathroom.

So many clever ideas...that sink "skirt" is GORGEOUS! The sink legs, the mirror, and the PB lantern trash can - love them.

You made that bath so unique and cool.

    Great job!

What really caught my eye was the paneling. Is this a project you did? Is there a tutorial? It's absolutely gorgeous in simplicity.

  10. Rie, it is absolutely one of the most charming bathroom vanities I have seen in ages!! You have such an eye and you take something no-one else would imagine and use it so well.

The other day I was in a vintage shop and the owner had taken a white ruffles gorls skirt and just pulled it over a lampshade and it was so pretty.

I think you and your husband are so talented.

  12. I love it! Love the pop of color the skirt and enamel container give the room. What a clever idea of using bed posts turned upside down for the sink legs. I also really like the three tier basket from Pier-1.

  17. You really have vision. I love your crisp edited style too. You have just enough going on. It reads so well and no one thing tries to steal the scene. That's talent of which you have plenty of :) I can't believe you ever considered leaving your sweet abode ?!

  29. Your bohemian style skirt around the sink is so charming. What a clever way to make use of something you already had. I love the little box for paper towels. The room has a sweetly finished look with every detail attended to.

  30. The sink was a really fabulous find. I love how you used the bed posts as legs, great idea!
And the skirt is so fun. Beautiful room.
I was just thinking as I work on our dining room how the colors are so blah. But adding pops of color feels just right to me too.

  31. The skirt is lovely, but I have to admit I do not really feel harmony in the pictures you have posted. It might be different in reality, but from the pictures it looks quite gray and a bit... boring?

I really think you should put something (a small flower, a wase or soap dispenser) in one of the colors from the skirt on the sink. This will make it more coordinated.

Then I would also advise you to move the pottery barn hanger or to hang some colorful items there. Right now - in the pictures - it looks only as a black spot on the wall. It would be better somewhere else.

    Just my two cents...

  35. Rie you never cease to amaze me! The funniest thing is I have bed post legs sitting in my basement, hoping one day a light will go off with what I can do with them. I used the middle board to make a huge shelf. Your are one inspiring gal! ps adore your waste lid too. Stacey

  36. Rie, thanks so much for stopping by. I haven't visited you in a while. So hard to keep up with all the wonderful blogs out there. I adore your bathroom and that skirt. Aren't you clever thinking outside the box. I love the container on the wall, too for the hand towels. What a wonderful idea. May have to copy that one.
