I have a disease

I’ve diagnosed myself.  Although this disease doesn’t have an official name.  I think it’s safe to say it’s psychological in origin.

Symptoms are:

Frequent urge to move furniture.
Can cause pain.
Itch comes on suddenly, and can be intense.
Periodic bouts of insomnia in extreme cases.

I’m not suffering in silence any longer.  Since starting this blog (6 months ago), I’ve changed whole rooms around multiple times.  It’s a disease, I tell you.

This room went from this:

room3

To this:

room4

To this:

room1
Which came from this room and is now back exactly as it was before.

room2

The rotating room now holds something else entirely, and one day I’ll show you.  But for right now I’m a little too embarrassed.

:)

  3. I'm not a frequent furniture mover, but this morning I did what I've been thinking about for a few days (yes, nights too!). I think my sweetie may croak, or at least hyper-ventilate when he gets home. He is a TAD set in his ways and this involved moving our seating in the living area. I guess I just wanted a little excitement in my life this week!!

  4. I just recently caught that same disease so when you come up with the name, do tell. I am remodeling my basement so I can rent it out and making room for 1200 sq ft of extra "stuff" has been challenging!

4 of my bedrooms, an office, and our family room are in complete upheaval and I can't decide how to arrange things. I guess since the symptoms are new to me, it takes me longer to figure things out.

At least you have mastered what to do! :)

  5. I have it to ~ for me it started when I was 6 yrs old! I would go in my room and turn the radio up loud so Mom couldn't hear me moving my furniture around. I quickly learned to put socks on the legs of things so I didn't scratch the hardwood floors!
My family doesnt blink an eye when they walk in and the entire house is rearranged. It happens quite often! Biggest trigger for me? A large coffee or a visit to Homegoods ~ LOL!

  6. Someone is going to have to name that disease, I have it too!! That room looks so great, all three times, I never would have even guessed it was the same room. You could just play tricks on us, that is a huge house with all those rooms. :-D

  7. You are too cute! I suffer from the same disease and often lose sleep at night with my mind racing of things to transform and rooms to switch up.

  8. Not only do I not have to suffer in silence, I don't have to suffer alone! You guys crack me up. :) We'd all get along spendidly.

  9. I have the same disease. I heard there is no cure.....you can alleviate the symptoms, but the only prescription is additional purchases and swapping of rooms (ex dining room becomes office, spare room becomes craft room) .

My hubby is baffled by this disease and the constant desire to move furniture. He does not understand it, and struggles with the side effects which are sore backs, flared nostrils, extreme bouts of perspiration and forehead popping veins!!!

    :D

I have heard its called "CONTENTOPHOBIA"
def: "the fear of not being content with one's own decorating style"

**(altho for some reason my hubby always mutters "OCD" with the onset of above symptoms??)LOL

  11. It sounds like a common disease and the only cure is to keep moving! Love that room every way you have had it!

  20. I think this disease is genetic Rie. I've passed it on to both of my daughters. But unfortunatly it's still in the initial stages ie they start to rearrange and then get distracted and go off to play. I'll be happier when it's full-blown and they finish the job.

  22. This sounds like a disease so many of us bloggers have. I believe the only cure is to nail the furniture down! xo, Sherry

  23. I'm much better about the furniture these days... but the accessories. Can't seem to stop the change out of these :)

  24. I love rearranging... a change is as good as a holiday!

  25. Rie, I inherited this disease from my adorable mom. Now I live in a tiny house, with little choices for moving furniture . . . so I move my assessories.

    Fondly,
    Glenda

  26. I have it, too. Seems to be worse during the change of seasons or before the holidays. Or when I O.D. on BHG or Martha. Or read too many blogs, hmm...

  28. My children always plead with me to move things back the way they were - they just don't like change you know, but then they get used to it and when it is time to re-arrange again, they once again plead with me not to change:)
    Warm wishes, Tonya

  29. Rie, you are so funny. I thought for a second there something was wrong and then read on. I love that bedroom. Looks so comfy and serene. I also like the nightstands with the baskets.
There is nothing wrong with change. We all need it now and then....in decorating when you can change things up for free, it's even better. : )
    Have a blessed day!

  32. Oh my goodness I have the same disease! Just this last weekend I change my bedroom around, I just didn't like it the way I had change it two weekends before--you know what I mean. Anyway, my sister, all though very understanding and helpful with my move, just chuckled at me as she walked out my bedroom after helping me move my armoir six inches--not much you say--well that six inches was giving me fitful sleeps, now I sleep soooooooo good :) Thanks for sharing about your disease. It helps to know others suffer I mean enjoy it too :)

  33. OMGosh! The more I read around BlogLand, the more I realize that we are all connected by the same deep urges to DO THINGS! LOL- Have you ever moved a room completely around and then kept arranging it and then re-arranging it until you realized it was right back where you started out? yeah? Me neither! (ok-I lied-I have done that) Can't wait to see what it now...please tell me it is not not the kitchen! Diana

  36. I accessed this site because I thought that my wife had an incurable disease. Having read all your comments I now realise that she is a normal wife of 40 years. However she is just planning our 18th house move and has "persuaded" me that we should do some decorating. My hobby has already been moved and my desk is sceduled for tomorrow. Good job I have a Scouse sense of humour.

  37. this disease is hereditary(did I spell that right?) My Grandmother would re-arrange the walls as well as the furniture. When my Grandfather was home on leave from WWII, my mom remembers his bumping into walls in the middle of the night. She didn't repeat what he said. Maybe she didn't hear him clearly over the laughter of her sister and herself. I still am doing the same. We haven't finished our own current house remodeling project and I'm laying out the re-redo of the our bedroom.

  38. Wow, it's so very good to know none of us are alone! When I was a single Mom, I moved about every 3 years. But I've ALWAYS had this disease! Both of my daughters have it,too. My youngest was so hilarious while still home. I remarried 9 years ago, and my husband built us a house, so this was IT. WE WERE HOME, NEVER TO MOVE AGAIN! But my daughter went crazy ever year or 2 and made the boys switch bedrooms with her! So, she at one time had every bedroom in the house, except the Master! She just got her own first place last weekend, and has already painted the whole thing! I loved all of the comments, and the feeling of sisterhood, as we know we are not alone!
