It’s about this time every year that I feel the almost panicky urge to pack it all up and move it on out. And when I say “it”, I mean everything. And when I say “out”, I mean out and into a U-Haul truck.
I’ve chalked it up to the winter doldrums. But instead of taking such extreme measures (I’m married to a sane and practical kind of guy after all), I seek out inspiration from houses even more spare than my own.

Like the O so talented Kelly Mcguill from O so D.
The images of her home provide the nudge to shake out all my drawers and scrub my closets bare.
A much more doable solution for my restlessness, right?
I love Kelly’s practical decorating advice and unpretentious style.
Besides the up and coming clean sweep, I also have a few new projects planned, all thanks to Kelly.

Hi! My name is Jamie, and I love your blog.
ReplyDeleteI too find myself feeling like I need to go through my entire house and purge around this time of year! I find myself perusing design sites, and magazines that lend themselves to a more "simple style."
You have an inspirational blog!
Blessings,
Jamie
I share your passion for the simplicity of my home, after I pack up all the bold colors and decorations of Christmas. It is one of the reasons that January is one of my favorite months.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the space.
Fondly,
Glenda
Yup that is exactly what I am doing today..I feel like such a grub after the holidays..inside and out...too much excessive food and stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love her home...many of her rooms are in my files......
ReplyDeleteI DID clean out today....I didn't pack a u-haul, but I scrubbed this house from one end to the next....
put all the Christmas stuff away and it felt so, so, so good.
*it's 5:20 pm and I'm still in my PJs*
Can you believe it????? Please tell me you have days like this!
I'm going to take a shower and put some fresh ones right back on!~
I would love to get a u haul too!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog through a friend and had to chime in and say I get the same feeling this time of year. It's ironic that we would add so much "stuff" to our homes at Christmastime only to end up wanting clean and simple after. Right there with you!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!

Oh-I have that same restless spirit...deed I do! I think I might have had some nomads in my family that urge me to pack up and move...and sometimes we do! I will go visit the blog you are referring to. Hugs-Diana
ReplyDeleteI have found a lot of inspiration on her blog as well. I just love the simplicity! I've been cleaning like crazy this week since Christmas is over and am just taking a small break right now.

Great images....am totally feeling the same way. Family left for the airport at 8:30 am on Monday, and by approx 8:50 am the ornaments were down, and I was heaving the tree out the door!! I couldn't wait to get rid of all the fallen needles and re-organize the house.

ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderful Christmas sweet Rie.

I wish you and your family a happy, healthy and blessed new year!
ReplyDeleteLove,

I think a lot of us feel your sentiments. We just moved into our house two months ago...so it has been fairly edited down...but the dried out Christmas décor is getting to me...cleaning time.
ReplyDeleteFollowing your blog.
Happy New Year.
Mary Ann
I feel the same way! I just put all my Christmas decor away yesterday and am packing up boxes of junk for the goodwill! It's such a great feeling!
ReplyDeleteI was on the warpath the other day- we went from one side of the playroom to the other and cleaned house before moving to the kids' bedroom!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Now I feel the urge to scrub and paint everything white! Love!

I'm so impressed and calm when I look at your pictures in your home. Sparse, restful, clean, I'm not a real fan of white all over my house though...I'm more rustic with warm woods.
ReplyDeleteYou do inspire and encourage me...so visit Mel's Cabin when you're in the area and sip a cup of coffee with me.
