2. Not elaborate or complicated; simple
3. Marked by little or no ornamentation or decoration
5. Beautiful. (my definition)
I’m still on a minimalist kick, can you tell? And no one does it quite like Jane Cumberbatch.
I’ve especially appreciated this little interview at styleathome.com, where she discusses her design philosophy and inspirations.
Jane’s blueprint for simple style? “Few, functional and fine.”

I don't know if I could be a real true unobstructed minimalist.....although by no means am I an overstuffed turkey either when it comes to decor....
ReplyDeleteNice pictures I will have to go check out that interview.
Hi Rie,
ReplyDeleteHOw are you?
I LOVE all of these pictures!
I also wanted to say congratulations on your feature in Romantic Homes,
and over at The Lettered Cottage!
Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year!
Thank you for being such a good friend this past year!
Take Care,
Maria
I'm definitely "less is more"...probably not as minimilized as some of these spaces.
ReplyDeleteGreat group of images.
Ashlyn
beautiful images...
ReplyDeleteisn't it funny how we go through seasons where a certain style just jumps out at us and speaks to us....
For example...I love color...but for a long while now, creamy whites with wood tones and LIVE green plants have "spoken" to me.....
less is definitely more...even though I have way more than these pictures depict...I still lean toward everything having a space and if there's not room for it, then it goes to someone who does.
Just looking at these pictures has me feeling calm... this new year brings me to want so much less!

"Few, functional and fine"- words to live by if I ever heard them!!! As granddaddy would say, "be particklar". Thanks for sharing, a perfect way to start the new year.
ReplyDeletei've long been a plain jane.

life includes stepping softly
to a gentle beat.

I go back and forth. Some years I am a plain jane and other times I am a blousy overdressed cabbage rose! lol Diana
ReplyDeletePlain=peaceful. Thank you. I just did a post on the meaning of my blog name, too!

It seems that the older I get the more I want things simple. I guess if I live to be 100 I'll have a table and one chair lol.
ReplyDeleteLove your home and the simplicity of it..Love your blog also..
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to add a little plain Jane to my home for the past year. It's slow going but I just love the look - most days LOL

ReplyDeleteLove it!!
Wishing you a lovely week,

It is very ironic you are wanting to become a minimalist...in my eyes you are the epitome of that. Im sure many can attest that your home already personifies serenity and calmness. Can you show before and after of some rooms you have been clearing out in this new quest of yours?
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I'm definitely a less is more kind of person, so these pictures really speak to me :)
ReplyDeleteI so love Jane Cumberbatch too! I often find myself paging through her book Pure Style Living.
ReplyDeleteYou're both so inspirational, and I can see an element of kindred soul in the two of you!
xx

I love that; few, functional and fine. That sums up my style too. I'm loving your blog, it's beautiful here! Have a lovely weekend,
ReplyDeleteNatasha
I like plain Jane stuff! It's not that easy! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it! definitely. plain allows breathing room, does it not? Before I forget to tell you {not sure if you are like this, but if I don't do it now, well, it may not get done!}, I wrote a post for tomorrow, and linked to your gorgeous laundry room. Hopefully you will enjoy some linky love!
ReplyDeletesee you tomorrow!

I just read this post - just came across your blog in fact...what a lovely way to describe Plain Jane. Having been called that by my brothers growing up, and now growing into and loving my name, and my more minimal life, this resonated with me. With thanks, Jane
