1. Remove lid to a gallon sized can of white stain
2. Balance lidless can of white stain on the edge of the bathtub
3. Knock over can of white stain onto freshly laid wood flooring
4. Use spackle knife to scrape puddles of white stain back into can
5. Vigorously rub paper towels over entire area
6. Think positive thoughts. Perhaps you have just discovered a new inventive whitewash application.
7. Realize that no, you have not.
8. Retrieve the belt sander.

Oh no! I have this fear every time I open a can of paint. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLuck and perseverance! So sorry! Take care, Laura
ReplyDeleteoh DEAR! on the bright side...it wasn't dumped on carpet! :)
ReplyDeleteOh no! Lucky at least that it seems to be floors that can be sanded, but... no, just feel sorry for you.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Not the funnest way to start ;) Good thing you can sand it off huh?
ReplyDeleteHey, that's my signature move.Only mine is usually accompanied by me slipping and falling in the paint too. Hope things go smoother with the rest of your project.~Merrilee
ReplyDeleteOh nasty! I hate learning the hard way...which seems to be my lot in life. I feel for you!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I've never spilled a can of paint, but it's always in the back of my mind. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Terrible!
ReplyDeleteAck! I knew this was going to be painful just from the title. ::sigh:: My paint can disaster happened up on an extension ladder, and fell below on an expensive Oriental rug, draperies, and the stereo.
ReplyDeleteOOPS....
ReplyDeleteoh dear. so sorry for your disaster...
ReplyDelete...hopefully it will be remedied soon. :)
Don't you just hate that! I hope it turns out ok!!
ReplyDeleteHave some chocolate today...that always helps doesn't it?!
Ashlyn
Ooops! Hubs did that years ago on purpose with oil based paint on our wood floors. It was way too much paint and took days to dry. What was he thinking?? Ha!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your finished floors! We're thinking about doing a white wash finish on pine floors in our house too.
☺ Celeste
GAAAAAAAAH!
ReplyDeletei'm sorry, but that was a little funny too, the way you told it. Can't wait to see the finished product, it's all gonna look great...
Cindy
:-(

ReplyDeleteCheck out my Giveaway, that will cheer you up!
Natalie
Oh, no!!! So sorry to hear about it! Well, there´s nothing much you can do now except put on a happy face, sand and stain the floorboards. Happy face and cheer up!
ReplyDeleteEeek! Well your spill looks much better than my freshly stripped and sanded dining room table looked last week, orange~ish tint and all.
ReplyDeleteHere's to you and clean up duty.
Hugs~

oh NO! But, it is definitely something that would end up happening to me.
ReplyDeleteOH NO NO NO NO NO!!! Well, on the upside, your bath tub looks fabulous! Hope you get it fixed and looking nicer than ever soon!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness NO! That is what was going through my head while reading this post. Yikes... I'm so sorry that happened to you.

You are hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry about the mis-hap and I can sort of relate.
ReplyDeleteWe rented a drum sander to do our floors and I sanded right over the cord! Sparks were flying everythwhere and I was screaming hysterically, "help!" but my husband couldn't hear me because he had the edger going in the other room!!! Thankfully I was able to yank the cord out of the outlet!!
No worries...you'll fix it! And it will look GREAT:)
ReplyDeleteIt made a darling post!
ReplyDeleteso refreshing to know I am not alone in my mishaps! I do like the white though=)
ReplyDeleteHOllie
Oh you poor thing...I would have cried...did you?
ReplyDeleteCarrie
Ohhhhh, nooooo! I kinda know how you feel! I have always worried about doing the same thing myself . . . and then one day it happened . . . with a full gallon! After my heart nearly stopped, I realized none of it had escaped the bounds of the plastic I had put down . . . so no carpet had to be replaced. But, it still took forever to get it cleaned up and now I am extra paranoid it will happen again! It's going to look fabulous when you're done!
ReplyDeleteBummer!! Sounds like something I would do. I hope the second go around works out! Robx
ReplyDeleteHey babe, it's all about the story. Just think, you got a blog post out of it, as well as a cautionary tale! Hope the rest of your project goes more smoothly, and you never know, that spill may have been the beginning of a floor with seriously chic character.
ReplyDeleteSpills aside, I very much look forward to seeing the finished product. I've always wished for whitewashed floors but it's a bit tough in a New York City apartment ;) But, I will share with you my favorite quote about them: "Paint your floors white. You'll feel Emma Peel-ish. You'll feel carefree. You'll feel thinner than you actually are. - Jonathan Adler" Isn't it so very true? White floors make me feel like ballroom dancing xx
ReplyDeleteBless you, friend! So sorry! Love you!
ReplyDeletexoxoxoxo,

Oh no, although I'm with Esther, carpet would be worse.
ReplyDeleteooh nooo... my heart hurts for that. but there is hope and it is called a belt sander and patience!
ReplyDeleteI hate that this happened to you, but I am so relieved that I'm not the only one that these things happen to. For some unknown reason we tend to think bloggers are perfect. That everything always goes right and that they always have picture perfect homes with perfect families. It is always so refreshing to also see they are REAL, too. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! So sorry, but I too am glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't err on the side of caution. I did feel really hopeful that you HAD found a new whitewashing method - too bad. :)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry! Thankfully it looks just like part of the floor. I too dreamed of white washed wood floors and we laid the entire floor, white washed away and then sealed it - with the wrong kind of sealer which promptly ate up some of the finish and turned the wood yellow...Enter two sanders and one not so happy hubby. He felt even better when I managed to burn up one sander all on my own :) In the end our floor turned out amazing though slightly different than we had originally planned. When people ask how we got the finish like that we just smile and say, "we don't recommend it". Best wishes to you on your floor.
ReplyDeleteLOL! You poor girl! But I know that you will turn that disaster into a beautiful thing! :)

EEK! I'm in the process of paiting the cottage living/dining room and have been guilty of being casual with the paint cans.
