Allure

floor4

I
sn’t it pretty?  I love it.  We would have preferred to lay true wood  flooring, but the kind we wanted was way over our budget (of course).  So, it came down to choosing between cheap hardwoods, laminate or Allure vinyl flooring.  I know, I know, vinyl sounds absolutely horrid right?  But have you seen the Trafficmaster Allure selection at Home Depot?  So beautiful!

I chose the color, “Limed Oak”.  I like the variation of warm tones throughout it, and I especially love how it looks pickled in spots.  The fact that it doesn’t go clickity-clack when you walk on it is also a plus (like laminate would).  With it being vinyl, clean up is a breeze.

floor5

Not only is the floor down, but I finally finished one wall in our foyer.  It’s so wonderful being able to look at this one spot in our house and see it complete.  Look to the left or the right or above… and not so much.  All in time.

We decided to keep the plank walls and caulk in between them.  Thanks for your votes on that one!  It helped tremendously.  The planks are painted “Clean White” (Valspar) flat, and semi-gloss for trim and baseboards.  The doors are painted “Cottage White” (Behr).

I found the drawer pulls at Anthropologie, but they work just as well for door pulls set vertically.

I’m enjoying my new finished spots, however small they might be!

  1. We have a similar floor in our bathrooms and kitchen. It's all one piece and called a floating floor. You can use it where heavy furniture is moved. We love it. People actually come in and reach down to feel the floor because they think it is real. It is easy to clean too. I love your doors.
Are they on the outside of your home.

  2. Rie, the floors are just beautiful!! We have laminate, too, and I was hesitant about the decision. Ten years later....they have held up like a champ! You chose a great color. LOVE your doors and planked walls! You have such a gift for creating a masterpiece out of your home!

  4. Debby-no, the doors are inside in the foyer part of the house. They lead into our music room.

Thanks Julia! I hope these hold up. We shall see!

Stefanie- not only did we install it, but all the kids (even the nine year old) helped lay it down. It was so easy!

  9. I love your floors! We are renovating an old Airstream and I think we have decided to go with vinyl planks in it. We haven't check at Home Depot yet though, so I need to head to their website soon! Thanks for sharing.

  10. Your floors are wonderful! If our old house didn't have the original floors under the tattered carpet, I would have definitely gone with the Allure. I have seen it on a few other blogs, too. Very nice and shiny!

Your entry looks simple and pretty. I love the knobs and pulls from Anthro! I have some on a cabinet and sometimes I just go there to look at them!!

    Have a good week!

  11. Those floors are amazing. I cant believe they are vinyl. I have hardwood all downstairs but have ugly vinyl in my kitchen have wanted to change it since the day we moved in but just too expensive. These looks great.

  13. Rie, we also put in vinyl flooring that looks like wood when we renovated our living/dining areas, about 7 years ago now. I was worried when the 2-year-old dropped a hammer and it made two little claw-marks...but even those have worn very well! And other spills come up so well, even dried-on Kool-Aid that seeped under the couch... Don't ask me how I know. ;) Happy decorating! The finished area looks great!!! (And I covet those door pulls...)

  16. Rie those floors are amazing. Funny I was talking to my sister today about her house..over 120 years old and has a floor- no subfloor just wide planks that allow cold winter air to enter and nice heated warm air to escape. We were talking about putting a floating floor over it- this might be the ticket.
And the doors- all I can say is WOW!!!

  18. Beautiful. So happy for you to have a little completed area in your new home. Maybe you could start eating all your meals in the foyer for now. :)

  19. Those drawer pulls are gorgeous...I have never seen anything like them. The flooring looks beautiful and we would never guess it was vinyl unless you told us. You will be so thankful every time you clean it because vinyl is a breeze to look after.

  20. So pretty - I can hardly believe it's vinyl! I have an older "hardwood" vinyl in my kitchen that the previous owners put in, and I must say, though it is not nearly as lovely as yours, I have come to appreciate it's qualities - so easy to clean and doesn't show wear and tear from the kids & dog! Enjoy yours - I just love that color!!

I love your floors..My daughter has vinyl floors in her home and you can't tell unless you reach down and touch them..Shoes on of course..She has had them for 7 years now and they look brand new plus if I remember correctly they have I think a 20 year warranty..I love your home..Have a great week..

  23. I love your floors! Mine are very similar to yours. :)

  24. I have the same flooring in a golden oak in my kitchen. The rest of our house has old wood floors, so laminate would look really fake and real wood was out of our budget. What I love is that it has texture like real wood, so the way the light hits it is the same as our wooden floors, and it hides a lot (which is good, as our primary entrance is directly into the kitchen). You'll love it.

  26. My Husband and I discovered "wood" vinyl on Valentine's Day in 2010 when I asked for a bathroom floor instead of chocolates and diamonds. In that room we choose a very light color. Since then we have used this product in 3 other rooms, that all abut real wood floors. We decided to go darker (with the light "wood" the seams stood out too much) and we absolutely love it. The 25 year warranty doesn't hurt either! My only qualm was that it wasn't "shiny" like a real hardwood. A quick coating of Floor Rejuvinate (also at Home Depot) and you honestly can't tell the difference!

  28. We are hoping to put that in our house in the future....we're on a slab, so I hope that won't make issues! Yours looks lovely, and I love the sneak peaks of finished spaces. :)

  30. We used the same flooring, in Hickory in our garage turned family roon. Our home was built in 1951, so the floor in the old garage wasn't exactly level. This is a floating vinyl plank floor and we love it. It's been in almost 3 years and we haven't had any issues at all. You can see the transformation here -

  31. We had hard wood floors in our house until last year when the boys flooded the house by leaving the bathroom sink running all day. We ripped up the floors and decided to go with vinyl instead. The boys have since flooded parts of the house at least twice but clean up was a breeze thanks to the vinyl. It's not as scratch resistent as I'd like it to be but it's so easy to replace scratched up planks if needed!

  32. Thank you, thank you, thank you. We had a leak in the master bathroom about two years ago which damaged about a square foot of the vinyl flooring and subfloor. This was perfect because we could patch the hole without ripping up the entire floor. We ended up getting hickory because it was on sale and in stock. It took me just over a day and is beautiful. I'll have some pics up soon if you'd like to take a look. Again, thanks for the inspiration.

  34. Hi Rie,
I just found your blog after searching on google for blogs that used Allure.
I installed it in my basement and it is a nightmare.
Yours looks beautiful! How is it holding up? I installed mine last year around October. Are your seams lifting?
    Thanks and love your blog!

  35. My mom hates it that our hardwood makes a cracking sound when you walk on it. I don't mind it personally. I guess some people are picky about noises.

  36. In today’s economy some people find it hard to do home remodeling especially remodeling floors. This is definitely a great alternative to many expensive flooring systems out their today. It looks so good and doesn’t look cheap at all. It goes well with the rest of the area. Thanks for this share!
